Julian Edelman was hoping to make an easy transition back to football after an injury sidelined him last season. However, it was announced Friday afternoon that would not be the case. Edelman is facing a possible four-game suspension for PEDs.

Edelman is suspected of violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. Edelman is appealing the suspension as he has taken “hundreds of tests” and never tested positive before.

Edelman works close with fellow teammate and best friend Tom Brady’s trainer, Alex Guerrero. Guerrero of TB12 Sports Therapy Center issued a statement.

“I’ve known Julian since his rookie year and he is a phenomenal athlete who takes his training seriously -- it’s disappointing to hear today’s news.” Guerrero said. “Elite athletes sometimes work with multiple coaches and health professionals as part of their off-season training. Here at our facility, we take a natural, holistic, appropriate and, above all, legal approach to training and recovery for all of our clients. And anyone who would suggest otherwise is irresponsible, and just plain wrong.”

If the suspension holds up, it would be the second time in three seasons the Patriots would start their season with a star player serving a four-game suspension. The last time it happened, the Patriots won Super Bowl 51.
