Behind The Curtain: Flip Gordon

December 20, 2017

Flip Gordon is a professional wrestler who has soared in popularity over the past two years. Gordon went from living in Montana to joining the National Guard in 2012. Gordon decided to pack up his things and leave Montana to go train at the New England Pro Wrestling Academy. Today, Gordon is one of the best independent wrestlers in the world, signing an exclusive contract with Ring of Honor.

Q: We know you’re a professional wrestler but you’re also in the National Guard, what made you want to join the military?

Flip Gordon: “I joined back in 2012 with my best friend, who I actually consider more of a brother. We enlisted together as horizontal construction engineers, it was actually his idea. At first I didn’t want to do it but after awhile he convinced me and it definitely helped me in more ways than one.”

Q: What made you want to become a professional wrestler?

FG: “It’s always been my dream ever since I was a little kid. It was always my main goal.”

Q: Have you ever had the chance to combine your two passions and wrestle in front of the troops or is that something you’d like to do?

FG: “I would love to eventually. Hopefully Ring of Honor would be willing to do something like that. I’ve had the privilege of wrestling inside of an armory which is kinda cool.”

Q: You signed an exclusive contract with Ring of Honor, a company where people like Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, CM Punk and Daniel Bryan all came from. What does that mean to you?

FG: “It means that Ring of Honor is the place that makes stars. Right now Ring of Honor is the place to be.”

Q: You’re one of the top independent wrestlers, what do you think makes you stand out from everyone else?

FG: “I think I’m just myself out there. I go out there and I just have fun and I think people see I’m having fun so they also have fun. I’m a unique style and I think that what really sets me apart is the fact that when I’m in the air I’m in full control of my body at all times. Other high flyers kinda just throw themselves in the air and hope for the best. Whereas, no matter what happens when I’m in the air I’m in full control of my body.”

Q: What do you consider to be your dream match and why?

FG: “My dream match would definitely have to be John Cena. Him and Eddie (Guerrero) were the two that got me into wrestling. Eddie unfortunately lost his life very young so that just leaves John Cena. I love his work ethic, he’s one of the most entertaining wrestlers to ever step foot in a ring and I get compared to him sometimes. So I think it would be really cool to be able to get in there with the guy who helped make Flip Gordon. If it wasn’t for John Cena there would be no Flip Gordon.”

Q: What do you consider to be your biggest accomplishment?

FG: “I’d say my biggest accomplishment is just doing what I love. Two years into this business and I signed with Ring of Honor. I’ve been to six countries, I’ve been to twenty plus states. I think just my career in itself is a big accomplishment. I’m a small kid from Montana that was never supposed to make it.”

Q: What’s it like for you to be on Being The Elite?

FG: “It’s a lot of fun. It’s a nice platform for me to able to show another side Flip Gordon. Not all the time in the ring am I given enough time to actually show my character and show who I am. So Being The Elite is that opportunity to showcase who Flip Gordon is not what I can do.”

Q: We saw a little preview of you being in the Bullet Club on Being The Elite, is there any chance we will see you as an official member of the Bullet Club?

FG: “I don’t know. Never say never, it is professional wrestling. Cody Rhodes and Kenny Omega are doing everything in their power to keep me from joining the Bullet Club. You’re going to have to keep watching Being The Elite to find out.”

Q: Is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?

FG: “I would just like to say thanks for all the support in 2017 and I’m excited for 2018 because I think it could be a very special year for me. Anybody that’s followed me, thank you so much and anybody that hasn’t heard of me I hope you’ll give me a follow so you can see what I’m going to do next year.”
