After a struggling 2017 season, the 2-9 New York Giants have made the decision to bench franchise QB Eli Manning. Manning has started 210 straight games and has become the face of the franchise since being drafted first overall in 2004. However, the decision to bench Manning doesn’t come from a lack of performance. Manning has thrown for 2411 yards, 14 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.

Geno Smith has been named starter and will be the first QB in 14 years other than Eli Manning to start a game for the Giants. In his 5 year career, Geno Smith has thrown for 5962 yards, 28 touchdowns and 36 interceptions.

Head Coach Ben McAdoo has also stated that rookie QB Davis Webb would be given an opportunity to play.

“Geno will start this week,” McAdoo said, via the Giants website. “Over the last five games, we will take a look at Geno, and will also give Davis an opportunity.”

Sundays game against the Raiders marks Geno Smith’s first start since week 7 in 2016 with the Jets.
