For years, hockey in the great state of North Carolina has been overlooked by the roaring success of the Carolina Panthers, Charlotte Hornets and all NCAA basketball programs in the area. The question is, why? Hockey in North Carolina is the best it’s been a really long time.

N.C. State is on a 14 game win streak, the most active consecutive wins for any hockey team in the state. Beating some of the best teams in West Virginia, Wake Forest and Delaware, N.C. State leads their division with a 6-0-0 record while having an overall record of 14-0-0.

Next up is the Carolina Thunderbirds of the FHL. With Jiri Pargac and Chase Fallis leading the offensive in scoring, things are looking really impressive for the 22-3-0 Thunderbirds. Currently on a 13 game win streak with a penalty kill percentage of 92% and a four goal average, the Thunderbirds appear to be unstoppable.

The Fayetteville Marksmen are playing arguably their best hockey since being formed in 2017. With a five game win streak, the Marksmen have been a completely different team since the Christmas break. With impressive performances from Captain Jake Hauswirth, Alternate Captain Travis Jeke and Dillon Kelley, the Marksmen have been red hot as of late and they plan on being the best team in the SPHL.

The Carolina Hurricanes are currently on three game win streak, and having fun while doing it. With their famous “Surge” after every victory, Hurricanes fans have a reason to stick around after the game. After beating the Flyers twice and the Blue Jackets in impressive fashion, the Canes are showing signs of improvement as of late.

The Charlotte Checkers, the AHL affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes, is currently on a two game win streak. With a sweep against the Belleville Senators, the Checkers sit atop the Atlantic Division with a 26-8-3 record. Andrew Poturalski and Janne Kuokkanen have been huge for the Checkers, putting up big numbers for the Checkers.

With what these teams are doing, hockey in North Carolina couldn’t be in a better place right now. If you haven’t already, go take a trip to see one of these amazing teams in person. Each team brings something unique to the table for family friendly fun.
