Scoring one goal in a hockey game is difficult, try scoring one goal in the National Hockey League. The NHL consists of the best hockey players in the world, scoring on them isn’t an easy task. However, the New York Islander legend Mike Bossy made it look effortless.

On this day in 1986, Bossy scored his 500th career goal in just his 647th game. Bossy’s first professional hockey goal came in 1977 in a game against the Buffalo Sabers. Although the Sabers prevailed that night, Bossy would go on to score 573 in 752 games.

Bossy spent his entire career with the Islanders and won four Stanley Cups in the process. After 10 years of play in the NHL, Bossy finally called it a career in 1987. Shortly after his retirement, Bossy was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991 and had his jersey retired by the Islanders in 1992.
